Dachshunds

At No Eye Deer Farm, we are excited to share our love for Miniature Longhaired Dachshunds, a breed full of personality, loyalty and endless fun. These little dogs might have short legs but they’ve got big hearts. Affectionately known as “sausage dogs,” Dachshunds are brave, clever and incredibly loyal to their families.

Miniature Dachshunds bring a unique energy to our farm. They’re cheeky, charming and always keep us laughing. Whether they are burrowing under a blanket, trotting proudly around the garden or snuggling into your lap at the end of the day, they’re always up to something and it’s usually adorable.

How We Raise Our Dachshunds

Our Dachshunds are raised right here in our family home, surrounded by kids, other dogs and the day to day rhythm of real life. This makes for well socialised, confident puppies who are used to a variety of sights, sounds and experiences from the very beginning.

  • Ethically bred with health, temperament and structure front of mind

  • DNA tested parents to ensure healthy puppies

  • Raised using our enrichment-based puppy plan for confident, happy pups

  • Loved like family — because they are!

Let's Talk About IVDD

One of the most important things to understand before bringing a Dachshund into your life is IVDD – Intervertebral Disc Disease. While Dachshunds are a joyful, affectionate breed, they are also genetically predisposed to this spinal condition due to their long backs and short legs.

What is IVDD?

IVDD occurs when the discs between the vertebrae in the spine become damaged, causing pain, nerve damage, or in severe cases, paralysis. It can happen suddenly, sometimes after a jump off the couch, going up stairs, or even while just playing.

Why It’s Scary

What makes IVDD especially difficult is how unpredictable it is. Some Dachshunds will never experience it, while others can be affected even with all the right precautions in place. It’s not always something you can control and that’s what makes it so heartbreaking.

What You Can Do

While there’s no guaranteed way to prevent IVDD, there are things you can do to reduce the risk and protect your Dachshund’s spine:

  • Use ramps or steps for getting on and off furniture

  • Avoid stairs where possible

  • Maintain a healthy weight to reduce spinal pressure

  • Use a harness, not a collar, when walking

  • Support their back when picking them up

Our Approach

At No Eye Deer Farm, we’re committed to breeding responsibly and educating our puppy families. While no breeder can promise a dog will never develop IVDD, we do our best by selecting parents with strong structure, avoiding exaggerated body types and raising puppies with thoughtful early movement experiences.

We always encourage future owners to research IVDD, talk to their vet and feel fully informed before bringing home a Dachshund. They are incredible little dogs, but it’s important to go into the journey with open eyes and a prepared heart.

Peaches, our cream long-haired Dachshund from No Eye Deer Farm

Peaches

Breed: Miniature Longhaired Dachshund

Colour: Cream

Personality: Peaches is the definition of a heart melter. She’s the most gentle, snuggliest girl, the kind of dog who wraps herself around your neck like a warm little scarf and settles in like she belongs there (because she does). If there’s a lap nearby, you can bet Peaches will be in it. Her soft nature, loving eyes and calm presence make her unforgettable, people fall in love with her the moment they meet her. Peaches is the perfect balance of playfulness and affection. She’s always up for a bit of fun, but she’s also completely content curled up in your arms, soaking in all the love. We adore her.

Sunny, our cream long-haired Dachshund from No Eye Deer Farm

Sunny

Breed: Miniature Longhaired Dachshund

Colour: Cream

Personality: We honestly don’t think we could have found a more perfect stud for our program than Sunny. Affectionately known as Sunny Bunny, he has a way of winning everyone over, especially kids, who just can’t resist his soft, fluffy coat and sweet, easygoing nature. Sunny has the most beautiful temperament, relaxed, gentle and happy go lucky. You’ll often find him snoozing upside down, paws in the air, with a big grin on his face like he doesn’t have a care in the world. He is an absolute treasure in our family and we feel so lucky to have him.

Pippa, our chocolate dapple long-haired Dachshund at No Eye Deer Farm

Pippa

Breed: Miniature Longhaired Dachshund

Colour: Chocolate Dapple

Personality: If you’ve ever heard someone say “Dachshunds have big personalities,” they were probably talking about Pippa. She’s our little pocket rocket, full of beans, full of mischief and full of love. You’ll often see her zooming past with a shoe in her mouth or discover a suspiciously lumpy bed, only to find her snuggled right under the blankets living her best life. She brings so much laughter and lightness into our days and honestly now she is here, life would be a little dull without her. But Pippa isn’t just cheeky, she’s incredibly affectionate and adores her humans. Once the zoomies are out of her system, she’s more than happy to curl up for cuddles and soak up all the attention. We couldn’t imagine our Dachshund crew without her.
