Valais Blacknose Sheep
The World's Most Beautiful Sheep,
Raised In The Hills of South Australia.
The Valais Blacknose Sheep, often celebrated as the cutest sheep in the world, originated in the stunning alpine region of Valais, Switzerland. These sheep have a history dating back to the 15th century, where they were bred for their adaptability to harsh alpine climates, as well as their exceptional wool and meat. What makes this breed truly special is their distinctive appearance with their striking black faces and their luxurious white fleece. But it’s their friendly, playful nature that makes them irresistible to farmers and animal lovers alike, earning them a place in hearts and paddocks around the globe as pets and companions.
The introduction of Valais Blacknose Sheep to Australia is a remarkable story of passion and dedication. In March 2021, the first 50% Valais Blacknose lamb was born in Victoria, Australia. Just one month later, the first purebred Valais Blacknose lamb was born in Victoria, milestones made possible through the use of imported embryos and semen, setting the stage for a new chapter in the breed’s history. The Valais Blacknose Sheep made their way to South Australia in 2023, with No Eye Deer Farm proudly introducing the first purebred Valais Blacknose Sheep to the state. This moment was a significant achievement for us and we are thrilled to help expand the presence of the breed in South Australia.
Why We Chose Valais Blacknose Sheep
At No Eye Deer Farm, we don’t follow trends, we follow our heart and our hearts led us to the Valais Blacknose.
We were first drawn in by their striking beauty, the kind that stops people mid-sentence. But it was their nature that held us. Gentle, intelligent, endlessly curious, Valais Blacknose sheep are more than rare livestock. They are soulful companions. They’re the kind of animals that meet your gaze, walk beside your children and become a part of the rhythm of your days.
We knew from the beginning that if we were going to raise sheep, they had to be special. Not just rare, meaningful and memorable. With their friendly nature, luxurious fleece and old world charm, they’ve fit into our family and our philosophy with ease.
Raising Valais is a privilege.
